A disciple of Jesus?

"Come, follow me," Jesus said... "And I will make you fishers of men".
Matthew 4:19

This morning I was praying with some friends. God spoke to us about the significance of discipleship within God's Church. Here are some of the things that came to mind...

Following Jesus is about real life
Jesus' disciples were with him daily. They walked with him. They talked with him. They ate with him. They shared their lives with him. For them it was not a religious thing but it was simply about walking with Jesus, getting to know him and learning from him. In recognising that this is what being a disciple of Jesus is about, it is impossible therefore for us to even associate dead religious activity with following him. Following Jesus is a very real experience that affects every day, moment, and area of my life.

There is a cost to following Jesus
At once they left their nets and followed him. Mark 1:18. Being a follower of Jesus means leaving things behind. The responsibility to do this is on no one other than each individual disciple. Did you know that you are able to limit the extent to which God can work in you and through you by the choices you make?

Following Jesus will always involve change
'Stagnant' followers of Jesus do not exist. If one is daily following him it will always mean going knew places, learning and discovering new things, growing and changing to be more like him. As I follow Jesus I am always moving forwards.

The importance of discipleship within the Church
I was reminded of how much of an impact discipleship has had on my life. I am so grateful to all those men of God who have been role models for me, invested time in me, and taught me how to live. I would encourage anyone who wants all that God has for them to identify such people who can help them to reach their potential.

Apologies for the long absense.

I have now returned.

Lots has happened over the past few months. Namely... my last kids club, a ten thousand word dissertation, a goodbye to where I have been working for the past 6 months, bible week, a heck of a lot of weddings, my brother getting engaged, a new car, and a little packing for Cardiff.

God has taught me so much during this time and I have been reminded that I am unquestionably His ongoing workmanship.

Enjoy reading my, from now on, frequent posts!

Goodbye Benchill!

Blessed!
